What Are You Naturally Attracted To?
Nature connection activity, writing prompt, web of life, discovering pieces of self

Invitation: What is drawing your attention?
When I was taking ecopsychology classes, this was my most enjoyable and eye-opening exercise; even empowering. It doesn’t take much time and can be done anywhere, preferably outside. Your backyard or front step is fine. Nature is everywhere. Look up and we have the sky and clouds; down we have the ground. Of course, if you wish to venture into the woods, meadow, or other wild spot, please do so. And, if you are stuck inside, a houseplant, pet, or even a nature photograph will suffice although a picture won’t have the same impact.
Have a notebook as you will be writing a short journaling piece. Find a spot that feels comfortable and inviting to you. Relax with a couple of deep breaths and notice your surroundings. It is important to let go of any expectations (especially if you have done this exercise before or read the final step). I will cover this in more detail in a future post but try to feel an openness and anticipation, like you are waiting to meet a close friend.
Look around and notice what you are drawn to—what you are attracted to. It may not be a living object; maybe a sound, a breeze, light, or scent. Spend a couple of minutes getting to know your attraction. Eyes opened and closed.
When you are ready, write about your attraction. What do you like about it? What attracted you to it? How do you feel? Writing is the important key to this exercise. This doesn’t have to be formal, just getting thoughts down is enough but the more you write, the more you will gain from the experience.
When you are finished, offer gratitude towards Nature and the experience shared together.
🤚Stop reading here until you complete the exercise. There is a punchline under my signature.
I’d love to read your writing if you would like to share. Or if you only want to share what you thought of this invitation. Let’s connect in the comments.

Peace & Blessings,
🌟 Here’s the interesting part. What you wrote about your attraction applies to you as well. We can’t notice what is outside of us if we don’t also have it within ourselves. What you wrote is more than likely something you needed to hear.

If something I wrote sparked some inspiration or brightened your day a little, or anything else you’d like to share… I’d be very grateful to hear about it in the comments, restack or click the little heart 💚 for a “like”.
An excellent idea and it's one of the reasons I continue to practice street photography—it's a way for me to document and then reflect on how to answer this question. And being deliberate about the practice has helped me get better with noticing over time.
So powerful just to connect with my own sense of attraction. What I am drawn to. This is a lovely exercise with a lovely twist- thank you!
